PRO 7 chief: P235 hazard pay due to fund limits

Police Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7), clarified that the P235 daily hazard pay for police frontliners is due to limitations in available funds.

Ferro explained that while there is a fiscal directive to provide hazard pay, the amount cannot exceed P500 and may be lower if funds are insufficient.

He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic was unexpected, making it difficult to source funds for hazard pay as it was not programmed.

PNP Chief Archie Gamboa is actively seeking additional resources to provide the full P500 daily hazard pay.

One potential source of funds being explored is the combat duty pay, as there are currently no combat operations due to a truce with the New People's Army.

Ferro assured personnel that the PNP leadership is being fair and spending funds judiciously, urging against speculation and division during the pandemic.

The PNP is also working with private lending institutions to suspend loan deductions to increase the net take-home pay of its personnel during the crisis.
