PBBM inaugurates country's first baseload solar farm in Batangas

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of Citicore Solar Batangas 1 in Tuy, Batangas, the country's first solar farm capable of providing baseload power.

The P10-billion facility boasts a 197-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar capacity and is integrated with a 320-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

This combination allows the plant to store excess energy and supply power even after sunset, ensuring round-the-clock clean energy delivery.

CREC President and CEO Oliver Tan emphasized that this project proves solar power can function as true baseload energy, a significant advancement for the Philippines' renewable energy transition.

Tan also mentioned that CREC is prepared to replicate this breakthrough, with plans for 1.5GWh of BESS in total for their projects.

CS Batangas 1 is part of Citicore's ongoing innovation, with two other plants, Citicore Solar Pampanga 1 and Citicore Solar Negros Occidental 2, also energized this year.

These new plants add 300MW of capacity, bringing CREC's total operating portfolio to 587MW.
