The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is set to open two new bio-molecular laboratories in Subic and Clark this week to boost the country's COVID-19 testing capacity.
These laboratories have been accredited as certified COVID-19 testing centers after passing a proficiency test by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
Each laboratory in Subic and Clark is capable of conducting 2,000 tests daily, adding a total of 4,000 tests per day to the PRC's capabilities, bringing the overall total to 16,000 tests daily.
The new facilities will support the quarantine needs for returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) due to available hotel accommodations in Subic and Clark.
The PRC plans to open eight more testing centers in various locations across the Philippines and add 10 more PCRs in the Port Area molecular lab, potentially enabling the Red Cross to conduct a total of 46,000 tests per day.
