Philippines targets 10 million COVID-19 tests with new kits

Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. announced that the Philippines has tested over 553,000 individuals for COVID-19, with a record high of almost 15,000 tests conducted on June 16.

The country is set to procure additional test kits that will enable the testing of nearly 10 million people.

The Department of Budget and Management's Procurement Service has acquired 230,857 RT-PCR test kits, and another 15,700 are set to be procured.

These kits will allow for a total of 9,838,032 tests to be conducted.

Galvez expressed optimism that daily testing numbers will rise significantly once the supply issue is resolved next week.

Currently, there are 46 accredited RT-PCR laboratories and 16 GeneXpert laboratories across the nation.
