PPA on heightened alert for 4.6 million sea passengers
The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has raised its alert status in anticipation of 4.6 million passengers traveling through seaports from December 15, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago expects a 250,000 to 300,000 increase in passengers compared to last year's 4.4 million, citing the favorable holiday schedule.
He assured that all frontline and operations personnel are on duty, with no leaves allowed until January 5.
The PPA is coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and other law enforcement units to ensure peace and order.
Major ports expected to handle the bulk of travelers include Batangas, Cebu, Calapan, San Pedro, and Dumangas in Iloilo City.
