PNP urges LGUs to adopt uniform quarantine guidelines for cargo

Philippine National Police (PNP) Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar urged local government units (LGUs) to adopt uniform home quarantine guidelines set by the Joint Task Force Corona Virus (JTF) CV Shield to ensure the unhampered movement of essential cargo.

Eleazar, who also commands the JTF CV Shield, noted that some LGUs are imposing stricter rules than those established, leading to the interception of vehicles carrying food and other basic necessities.

He stressed that the JTF CV Shield's guidelines explicitly permit the free flow of cargo to prevent shortages of food, medicine, and water during the enhanced community quarantine.

The PNP is coordinating with police directors down to the station level to disseminate the simplified quarantine rules to address the inconsistencies.

Eleazar reminded LGUs to respect the decisions of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on COVID-19 measures, as emphasized by President Duterte and Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.

The JTF CV Shield regularly updates its list of individuals exempted from home quarantine and conducts meetings to revise rules as needed.

Eleazar highlighted the importance of unified rules to prevent confusion among the public and government personnel.

The JTF CV Shield, composed of the PNP, military, Philippine Coast Guard, and Bureau of Fire Protection, is responsible for implementing quarantine control points.
