Duterte warns LGUs on ECQ compliance

President Duterte directed all local government units (LGUs) in Luzon to strictly adhere to the national government's guidelines for the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), warning that non-compliance could lead to administrative and criminal charges.

He emphasized that the country is a single republic and LGUs should not operate as separate republics, calling out local governments for implementing different policies regarding the movement of cargo and goods.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), through Secretary Eduardo Año, urged LGUs to coordinate with them on the implementation of guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to prevent confusion.

Año stated that coordination and dialogue are necessary, noting reports that confusion on the implementation of the measure resulted in the hampered delivery of basic goods.

He reiterated that all cargoes should always be allowed to pass through checkpoints.
