The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging barangay officials to take the lead in preventing firecracker-related injuries ahead of New Year's Eve.
Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. called on barangay leaders to be proactive in safeguarding their constituents, particularly against the use of illegal firecrackers and firearms.
The PNP also stated they will strictly enforce regulations against illegal or unsafe firecrackers.
This appeal follows the Department of Health's report of 91 firework-related injuries nationwide from December 21 to 27.
The DOH data indicates a 34% decrease in injuries compared to the same period in 2024.
The PNP previously highlighted that overweight and oversized firecrackers, along with 31 specific types of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices, are banned for this year's celebrations.
