PNP confirms Dagupan blast site lacked permits

The Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that the makeshift facility in Dagupan City where an explosion occurred, killing two and injuring four, was operating without the necessary permits.

Acting PNP chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine accountability and prosecute those involved in the illegal operation.

The PNP highlighted the severe risks associated with illegal firecracker factories situated in residential areas, emphasizing that this incident underscores the deadly consequences of disregarding the law.

The police force has repeatedly issued warnings against the production and sale of illegal firecrackers, especially during the holiday season, noting that such activities pose a direct threat to public safety.
