PNP revises procedures to protect personnel from COVID-19

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is revising its operational and investigation procedures to safeguard its personnel from COVID-19 infection in the new normal.

PNP Chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa stated that the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) has initiated the publication of the 'Revised PNP First Responders' Manual under the New Normal'.

This manual emphasizes the observance of minimum health standards at crime scenes, modified duty rotations for mobile and beat patrollers, orientation on safety health protocols, and the proper use of protective equipment.

The PNP will also maximize the use of information and communications technology to minimize exposure and enhance investigative capabilities, ensuring faster exchange of information and tactical accuracy.

Gamboa noted that law enforcement operations during the 75-day enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and the continuing general community quarantine (GCQ) exposed police personnel to infection risks.

As of the report, there were 499 confirmed COVID-19 cases among PNP personnel.
