DOT welcomes reactivation of tourist cops
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reactivated its tourist police units, known as the Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP), in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
PNP chief Police General Archie Gamboa directed the activation of these units to ensure tourists adhere to health guidelines.
This initiative supports the Department of Tourism's (DOT) decision to allow domestic tourism in MGCQ areas.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat welcomed the reactivation, stating it would hasten the tourism industry's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to enforcing health protocols, the TOPCOP will provide security operations for tourists and establishments and address related safety issues.
The TOPCOP will also strengthen the existing Tourist Police Assistance Desks (TPAD) nationwide.
