Police: Chinese group may be behind kidnap-slay of Que, driver
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating a potential link between the kidnapping and murder of steel magnate Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo, and a Chinese "muscle" group suspected of being debt collectors for Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).
PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo noted similarities in the modus operandi between the current case and a previous kidnapping incident, including the victims being bound and gagged.
The suspected group, identified as Chinese nationals, allegedly operates as debt collectors for Pogos, a practice highlighted by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
Fajardo stated that the PNP has yet to establish if Que himself was involved in POGO operations before its ban.
Crime scene operatives are still completing their examination of the victims' bodies.
