Cop dismissed for criticizing Pres. Marcos Jr. and defending Duterte

The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has dismissed Patrolman Francis Steve Fontillas from police service and perpetually disqualified him from public office for grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a police officer, and disloyalty to the government.

This dismissal followed a viral Facebook video where Fontillas criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and stated he would not obey the President if given a wrong order.

He also criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Interpol regarding the arrest and ongoing trial of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Fontillas resigned on April 10 after his criticisms went viral, but Napolcom asserted its jurisdiction, stating that the charges were filed before his resignation.

Napolcom Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan confirmed that Fontillas' resignation will not exempt him from administrative and criminal charges.
