PHP7M worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Zamboanga del Norte

Authorities arrested two suspects and confiscated PHP7 million worth of smuggled Indonesian cigarettes in Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga del Norte.

The suspects were apprehended at a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion while transporting 136 master cases of assorted undocumented cigarettes via a Mitsubishi Fuso truck.

The newly installed director of Police Regional Office-9, Brig. Gen. Roel C. Rodolfo, stated that the contraband lacked the required graphic health warnings, a violation of Republic Act 10643.

The suspects promised to identify the smugglers who tasked them to deliver the contraband.

This operation is the second anti-smuggling bust in Zamboanga del Norte this year, and the largest confiscation to date.

The seized items will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
