Authorities in Lanao del Norte have confiscated P4.8 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in a checkpoint operation.
The contraband cigarettes were discovered inside a white Isuzu truck during an inspection at past 3 a.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Campong, Pantar town.
The truck driver and his helper were unable to present any valid documents for the shipment.
Among the seized items were 68 master cases of Modern, 27 Delta, 16 New Far Red, and nine New Far Green cigarettes.
The confiscated cigarettes and the vehicle have been turned over to the Bureau of Customs in Iligan City.
The suspects are currently detained at the Pantar municipal police station while charges are being prepared against them.
