Phivolcs keeps Kanlaon Volcano on Alert Level 3

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) maintained Alert Level 3 for Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island following multiple ash emissions.

Two ash emission events occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2025, lasting between 13 to 24 minutes each.

In the same 24-hour period, twelve volcanic earthquakes, including two volcanic tremors, were recorded.

The volcano also emitted 2,077 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Saturday, with moderate plumes rising up to 400 meters and drifting southwest.

Phivolcs noted that the volcano edifice remains inflated and continues to exhibit magmatic unrest.

The six-kilometer radius danger zone around the summit remains evacuated, and flying aircraft near the volcano is prohibited due to potential hazards such as explosive eruptions, ashfall, and pyroclastic density currents.
