DOT suspends tourism activities around Mt. Kanlaon after eruption

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has suspended all tourism activities in areas surrounding Mt. Kanlaon following its explosive eruption.

This precautionary measure is in place to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in affected areas, including La Carlota City, Bago City, and La Castellana.

Tourists are advised to postpone travel plans and strictly follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

The Kanlaon Volcano eruption on April 8 sent a plume of ash 4,000 meters into the sky, affecting various barangays in Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Antique.

The local government of Canlaon City enforced a strict prohibition on entry into the six-kilometer extended danger zone surrounding the volcano.

The eruption has displaced approximately 20,000 people, with a total of 48,850 individuals affected across 28 barangays in Western and Central Visayas.

No reported injuries or damage to tourism-related establishments were recorded following the explosion.
