Phivolcs keeps Kanlaon Volcano at Alert Level 3

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has maintained Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island at Alert Level 3, signifying magmatic unrest.

Six ash emission events were recorded in the past 24 hours, lasting from 9 to 122 minutes.

These emissions produced plumes reaching about 500 meters tall, with a total of over 1,200 tons of sulfur dioxide emitted on April 1.

Phivolcs recorded 23 volcanic earthquakes, including nine volcanic tremors.

Under Alert Level 3, Phivolcs recommends the evacuation of residents within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano's summit and bars aircraft from flying near it.

Kanlaon Volcano has been under Alert Level 3 since December 9, 2024, when it last erupted.
