DOH aims to test 1.5% of population by end of July
The Department of Health (DOH) aims to test 1.5% of the Filipino population, equivalent to 1.65 million individuals, by the end of July.
As of June 13, the DOH has tested 468,681 unique individuals.
The Philippines currently has 59 operational COVID-19 testing laboratories with a rated daily testing capacity of nearly 50,000.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire mentioned that the actual daily testing output averages between 10,500 to 11,000 due to some operational issues.
The DOH plans to increase the number of licensed laboratories to 60 to 65 by the end of July.
To maximize testing capacity, there is a need to increase submitted samples to laboratories, hire encoders, and foster public-private partnerships for medical supplies.
