Gov’t targets to reach 1M Covid-19 tests by July
The Philippines has exceeded its target testing capacity of 50,000 daily COVID-19 tests as of June 19, with testing czar Vince Dizon noting a significant increase from March's capacity.
Over one million COVID-19 testing supplies have arrived in the country as of June 21, which Dizon stated will allow for an increase in daily tests conducted.
The arrival of these supplies, coupled with increased laboratory capacity and an automated system for returning OFWs, is expected to further reduce the turnaround time for test results.
The turnaround time for test results has improved to an average of 48 to 72 hours, down from over two weeks in March.
As of June 22, more than 600,000 COVID-19 tests have been conducted, with a goal of one million tests by July.
The positivity rate for COVID-19 is currently around 5%.
