Philippines logs 8,735 new COVID-19 cases, 5,930 recoveries

The Philippines logged 5,930 new COVID-19 recoveries on Sunday, August 1, 2021, bringing the total number of recovered individuals to 1,506,027, which represents a 94.3 percent recovery rate.

The Department of Health (DOH) also announced 8,735 new COVID-19 infections, increasing the total cases to 1,597,689, with 63,646 active cases.

A total of 127 new deaths were reported, pushing the country's total COVID-19 fatalities to 28,016.

Of the active cases, 94 percent have mild symptoms, 1.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.2 percent are critical, 2.1 percent are severe, and 1.45 percent are moderate.

On July 30, about 14.9 percent of 50,116 individuals tested turned out positive for COVID-19.

The DOH noted that 11 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, eight were recoveries, while nine recoveries were reclassified as active cases and 75 recoveries were reclassified as deaths.
