Philippine Navy produces DIY face shields for checkpoints

Philippine Navy personnel are producing DIY face shields to address PPE shortages for those deployed at quarantine checkpoints in Luzon.

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NSSC) has initiated the production of face shields due to insufficient PPE supplies for quarantine checkpoint personnel.

Rear Admiral Rommel Jason Galang of NSSC stated that the initiative aims to support frontliners and ensure their safety amid dwindling PPE supplies.

The face shields, constructed from materials like transparency film, foam, garter, and double-sided tape, are being distributed to the Naval Task Group - National Capital Region (NTG-NCR).

As of March 25, a total of 470 face shields have been produced by the NSSC.

The NTG-NCR is responsible for manning checkpoints in Rizal, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Cavite, and Laguna.

Last week, the PN deployed over 500 sailors and marines to man the checkpoints.
