TUP-Visayas develops 3D-printed face shield frames for medical workers

The Technological University of the Philippines - Visayas (TUPV) is developing 3D-printed frames for face shields to support medical workers in Negros.

They aim to produce up to 250 frames per day and are increasing the number of 3D printers to boost production capacity.

The 3D-printed frames will be attached to acetate film before distribution to healthcare professionals.

This initiative addresses the critical shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontliners in the Philippines amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) is also collaborating across its 8 campuses to produce face shields for medical workers and security officers.

PSHS is facing challenges in acquiring acetate films and 3D printer filament due to the community quarantine.

PSHS Executive Director Lilia Habacon has called for assistance in finding acetate suppliers to increase production.
