PH men's and women's football teams make SEA Games semis history

The Philippine men's Under-22 football team has reached the Southeast Asian Games semifinals for the first time in 34 years and will face Vietnam on Monday.

This historic achievement is coupled with the Philippine women's football team also reaching the semifinals, marking the first time both divisions have advanced this far in the same SEA Games.

Philippine Football Federation president John Gutierrez expressed happiness about the dual success but urged the teams to remain focused and work towards reaching the finals.

The U22 team qualified for the semifinals by winning both of their Group C matches, defeating Myanmar 2-0 and the defending champions Indonesia 1-0.

The Filipinas, bronze medalists in 2021, are in the semis after routing Malaysia 6-0 and will face host Thailand on Sunday.
