PCG's largest ship BRP Gabriela Silang arrives in PH

The Philippine Coast Guard's largest ship, the BRP Gabriela Silang, has arrived in the Philippines and will be used as a transport ship for medical goods and frontliners.

Admiral Joel Garcia, Coast Guard commandant, stated that the vessel will ferry medical supplies, personal protective equipment, medicines, and health workers to regional hospitals.

The BRP Gabriela Silang is also available to be designated as a quarantine ship if necessary.

The ship's arrival was delayed due to a diversion to the Middle East in December 2019 to assist in the repatriation of overseas Filipino workers.

The BRP Gabriela Silang has the capacity to transport around 500 people and can travel 8,000 nautical miles at 15 knots, with an endurance of up to five weeks.
