Navy converts BRP Ang Pangulo into floating quarantine facility

The Philippine Navy is converting the presidential yacht, BRP Ang Pangulo, into a floating quarantine facility for persons under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs) for COVID-19, following President Duterte's directive.

Vice Admiral Giovanni Bacordo, Navy Flag Officer in Command, stated that the BRP Ang Pangulo can accommodate 26 to 28 individuals.

President Duterte mentioned that he had never used the yacht and instructed the Navy to convert it into a hospital to aid in the containment of the coronavirus.

The BRP Ang Pangulo, originally obtained during the administration of former president Carlos P. Garcia, has the capacity to accommodate 44 guests and 81 crew members.

Currently stationed in Davao City, the yacht's potential docking area has been identified, and its organic crew will remain on board with separate entrances for personnel and patients/healthcare workers.

The Navy is coordinating with the Department of Health and other government agencies to equip the yacht with necessary medical supplies and facilities.
