PBBM leads switch-on of 3 new power plants in Siquijor

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the switch-on of three new diesel power plants in Siquijor province on Friday, aiming to secure the island's energy supply.

The new facilities, with a combined capacity of 17.8 megawatts, were developed to address power instability after the Energy Regulatory Commission revoked the permit of Siquijor Island Power Corporation (SIPCOR) due to violations.

These plants are expected to provide a dependable capacity of 12.25 MW with a 1.7 MW reserve, surpassing Siquijor's peak demand of 9 MW, thus ensuring continuous and stable electricity for residents and businesses.

The project, a collaboration between the National Electrification Administration (NEA), PROSIELCO, CEBECO I and III, and other stakeholders, aims to reduce brownouts and enhance system reliability.

The Presidential Communications Office stated that the improved power supply is anticipated to stimulate local economic growth within the province.
