Palace respects CA's power to confirm appointments

Malacañang respects the Commission on Appointments' (CA) constitutional power to confirm presidential appointments, following the bypass of several officials.

Acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar affirmed that the Palace will abide by the CA's ruling on these appointees.

The bypassed officials include the chairperson of the Commission on Audit, Civil Service Commission, and Commission on Elections, along with two Comelec commissioners.

The CA's decision to bypass these appointments was due to a lack of quorum during the scheduled confirmation hearing.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri suggested that individuals associated with President-elect Bongbong Marcos had requested the CA to allow the incoming president to freely choose officials for these positions.

The non-confirmation of the Comelec officials creates an opportunity for incoming President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to select his preferred members for the commission.
