CA bypasses 5 appointments including Comelec, CSC, COA chairs

The Commission on Appointments (CA) bypassed the ad interim appointments of five officials, including the chairs of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Civil Service Commission (CSC), and the Commission on Audit (COA).

This decision allows President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make his own selections for these constitutional offices.

Wednesday, June 1, was the last day the CA could hold a plenary session before the 18th Congress adjourns sine die on June 3.

The CA failed to reach a quorum during Wednesday's committee hearing, with only eight members present out of the required nine.

The appointments of COA Chairperson Rizalina Noval Justol, CSC Chairperson Karlo Alexei Nograles, Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan, Comelec Commissioner Aimee Torrefranca-Neri, and Comelec Commissioner George Erwin Garcia were bypassed.

The deliberations for these appointments had been deferred twice previously, once due to members being part of the National Board of Canvassers.
