Inting named Comelec acting chairperson anew

Commissioner Socorro Inting has been designated anew as the Commission on Elections acting chairperson, effective June 2.

Her designation came after the Commission on Appointments bypassed the ad interim appointments of Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan and two other poll commissioners.

Inting will serve as the acting chairperson until President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. names a new poll chief.

This is not Inting's first time heading the poll body, as she previously served as acting chairperson for a month from February to March.

As the most senior of the remaining four commissioners, Inting, a judiciary veteran and former Court of Appeals associate justice, hails from Davao.

Inting had previously resigned from her role as chairperson of the committee on firearms and security concerns in April to protest her colleagues' decision to allow Pangarungan to independently issue gun ban exemptions.
