OWWA assists nearly 9,000 stranded OFWs

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has assisted nearly 9,000 stranded Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) during the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

Assistance provided includes free transportation for 3,106 OFWs, temporary shelter for 2,616, and food packs for 2,462 seafarers.

The Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong (AKAP) program offers a one-time financial aid of P10,000 or USD200 to displaced land-based and seabased OFWs.

OWWA reminds applicants that the DOLE-AKAP application form is free and warns against selling or earning from it.

OFWs must apply online for repatriation or returning assistance, while on-site OFWs should visit their nearest Philippine Labor Office (POLO).
