DOLE AKAP program gets over 30,000 OFW applications

As of April 22, the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) "Abot Kamay ang Pagtulong" (AKAP) program has received over 30,000 applications from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that the program remains open to accept new applications for financial assistance from OFWs impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AKAP program provides a one-time cash assistance of P10,000 or its equivalent in local currency to land-based and sea-based OFWs who experienced job displacement due to lockdowns.

The program aims to assist approximately 150,000 OFWs affected by lockdowns abroad or those stranded in the Philippines.

While POLO Kuwait has stopped accepting applications due to limited allocation, the DOLE-AKAP program itself is still accepting applications.

As of April 22, OWWA Calabarzon has released P3,040,000 to 304 stranded or displaced OFWs in the region, consisting of 131 land-based and 173 sea-based workers.

The previous report stated that OWWA-1 had received 5,508 applications and approved 659, with 87 already disbursed.
