Ombudsman to probe 6 flood control anomalies in 60 days

The Office of the Ombudsman will begin preliminary investigations into six flood control project anomalies, including five 'ghost projects' in Bulacan and a dike project in Oriental Mindoro.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed that the preliminary investigation for these cases will be completed within 60 days, a faster timeline than the usual year-long process.

The DOJ submitted its findings on the Bulacan projects on October 14, while the ICI submitted its findings on the Oriental Mindoro case last month.

The ICI had previously recommended charges against 18 public officials, including Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, for irregularities in the Oriental Mindoro project.

The Ombudsman expects to file cases against those involved before the anti-graft court next month.

Remulla stated that his office is also gathering evidence on projects awarded to contractor couple Pacifico and Sarah Discaya, with the Department of Public Works and Highways committing to provide necessary documentary evidence.
