Ombudsman forms task force to probe flood control projects in Cebu

The Office of the Ombudsman has formed a special task force to investigate flood control projects, particularly in areas devastated by Typhoon Tino, with a specific focus on Cebu.

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla assured victims that justice will be pursued and stated the task force will prioritize projects meant to prevent the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.

Typhoon Tino resulted in 188 deaths, 96 injuries, and 135 missing individuals, primarily in Cebu, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental.

Protesters gathered before the Ombudsman's office, demanding accountability for alleged anomalous flood control projects worth P26.7 billion in Cebu.

The task force's investigation includes a hillside development project, The Rise at Monterezzas in Cebu City, which netizens are pointing to as a cause of the massive flooding.
