ICI focuses on 80 flood control projects tied to contractors Marcos flagged
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) is prioritizing 80 out of 421 flood control projects suspected of corruption, involving contractors previously named by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
ICI Special Adviser Rodolfo Azurin Jr. stated that these 80 projects are connected to the '15 or 18' contractors identified by Marcos in August.
The commission is coordinating with the Office of the Ombudsman, Department of Justice (DOJ), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for investigation and prosecution.
The ICI is obtaining bid documents through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the NBI to compare with actual project implementations.
Inspections of flood control projects are planned for the Ilocos region this week and Central Cebu, specifically Cebu City and Mandaue, by Sunday, areas significantly impacted by recent typhoons.
The investigation aims to determine the reasons for severe flooding in Cebu despite substantial allocated funds, including over P26 billion mentioned by Governor Pamela Baricuatro.
