DENR forms team to probe Monterrazas de Cebu Project amid flood concerns

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has formed a multi-stakeholder team to investigate the Monterrazas de Cebu Project following renewed public backlash and concerns about its environmental compliance.

This action follows residents blaming the development for worsening floods during Typhoon Tino.

The investigation involves technical experts from DENR Region 7, the Environmental Management Bureau, and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, along with local officials from Cebu City and Barangay Guadalupe.

The team will assess the project's compliance with its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and other environmental regulations.

They will also scrutinize the effectiveness of the project's drainage, slope protection, and runoff management systems, and evaluate potential risks such as landslides and flooding.

The team began on-site inspections on November 7.
