OFWs in Israel seek aid amid conflict

A small number of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Israel are requesting assistance amidst the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas militants, according to OWWA director Hans Leo Cacdac.

Cacdac mentioned that the OFWs seeking aid are primarily those residing in homes without bomb shelters, a feature common in most Israeli structures.

He assured that the majority of the estimated 30,000 OFWs in Israel, predominantly caregivers living with employers, are safe and sound as their residences are equipped with bomb shelters.

The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Tel-Aviv are providing the necessary assistance to those in need.

Approximately 300 Filipinos are situated in areas directly impacted by the conflict, such as Ashkelon and Ashdon, with an additional 100 in the Gaza Strip, many of whom are married to Palestinians.

OFWs in the affected regions have been instructed to remain indoors for their safety.
