OCTA: NCR COVID-19 reproduction number drops to 1.16

The reproduction number of COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) has decreased to 1.16, according to OCTA Research.

Five Metro Manila cities – Pasay, Manila, Marikina, Taguig, and Mandaluyong – have shown a downward trend in new COVID-19 cases for at least two weeks.

Metro Manila recorded a -0.4% one-week growth rate with an average of 5,085 new cases per day over the past week, and its positivity rate dipped to 24%.

Despite the decrease, the reproduction number of 1.16 indicates that each COVID-19 case can still infect more than one other person.

Hospital bed occupancy in Metro Manila is at 65%, while intensive care unit (ICU) utilization is at 85%.

OCTA Research cautioned that the region will continue to have a high number of new COVID-19 cases for the next weeks, meaning demand for hospital care will not ease soon.

The public is urged to continue strictly complying with health guidelines to help prevent the spread of the virus.
