OCTA: Metro Manila nearing victory over Delta variant

According to OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David, the country is close to winning the battle against the Delta variant of COVID-19.

The reproduction rate of COVID-19 in Metro Manila has decreased to 0.63, and the seven-day average of cases is below 2,000, a level not seen since late July.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila is currently at 12% and is projected to fall below 10%, which would indicate sufficient testing.

David stated that Metro Manila is nearing the end of the Delta variant's transmission cycle, with cases significantly reduced.

OCTA Research is optimistic that the National Capital Region could be placed under Alert Level 2 by the end of October, provided that cases continue to decline.

Despite the positive outlook in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, David cautioned against complacency as surges are still occurring in some provinces, particularly Region 2.
