Metro Manila COVID-19 cases lowest since July

Metro Manila's weekly average COVID-19 cases have dropped to 1,933 as of October 11, the lowest since July 31-August 6, prior to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

The reproduction number in the region decreased to 0.61, and the positivity rate fell to 12 percent.

OCTA Research forecasts that Metro Manila could see fewer than 1,000 daily COVID-19 cases by the end of October due to the rapid decline in infections.

Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research cited the high vaccination rate as a key factor in the "very fast" decrease in cases, contrasting it with the slower decline during the March-April surge when vaccination levels were lower.

He noted that before the Delta surge and following the Alpha and Beta variant surge, Metro Manila's daily cases had fallen to about 600.
