OCTA: Delta variant cases may reach 2,000

An expert from OCTA Research, Dr. Guido David, estimates that the Philippines may have around 2,000 cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

This projection is based on genome sequencing of samples, where 26% were identified as the Delta variant.

Dr. David noted that the country's genome sequencing capacity is limited, analyzing only about 100 samples daily out of approximately 8,000 COVID-19 cases.

He emphasized that this is a projection and not a confirmed fact, with a possibility of sampling error.

The Delta variant's high infectivity rate suggests it could become the dominant variant.

Dr. David also pointed out that a surge in cases is definitely happening in the National Capital Region (NCR), with daily recorded cases reaching around 2,000 as of August 2.
