OCTA: Covid cases show flat trend nationwide

Independent research group OCTA reported a "flat trend" in COVID-19 infections across the Philippines, indicating neither significant increases nor decreases in new cases.

The National Capital Region (NCR) saw its weekly growth rate in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases remain nearly level or flat over the past three weeks, with a growth rate averaging -3 percent.

NCR had an average of 634 new COVID-19 cases per day from July 6 to 12, a 2 percent decrease from the previous week's average.

The reproduction number in the NCR was 0.93, very close to 1.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David stated that the plateauing of cases in the NCR is not bad, as the region can live with 600 cases per day, which is considered moderate.

Davao City, Bacolod City, Cagayan de Oro City, General Santos City, Baguio City, and Calamba City also exhibited flat trends in their COVID-19 cases.

Despite the flat trends, Davao City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Baguio City, Tagum City, and Santa Rosa City remain flagged as "high risk" areas.

NCR, Bacolod City, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City, and Calamba City are categorized as "moderate risk" areas.

Overall, the Philippines as a nation is still considered to be at moderate risk for COVID-19.
