OCTA: Metro Manila COVID-19 CFR down 26%

The COVID-19 case fatality rate (CFR) in Metro Manila has dropped by 26% to 0.78% between June 1 and July 6, 2021, a decrease from 1.06% in the January to March 2021 period, according to OCTA Research.

This rate is significantly lower than the 2.32% CFR recorded in Metro Manila in 2020.

The CFR among senior citizens (60 and above) decreased by 27% from 5.78% to 4.29% during the same period.

Fatality rates also declined for those aged 50-59 (by 25% from 1.61% to 1.21%) and 40-49 (by 60% from 0.62% to 0.37%).

The CFR for the 18-29 age group remained stable at 0.13%.

Conversely, the CFR among minors (under 18) increased from 0.07% to 0.20%.

OCTA Research suggests that vaccination efforts, which began on March 1, 2021, may have contributed to the lower fatality rates among those aged 40 and above.
