Noynoy Aquino laid to rest with full military honors

Former president Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III was interred at the Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque, beside his parents, former president Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.

The Aquino family declined a state funeral for the former president, opting instead for full military honors.

A helicopter showered yellow flower petals on the funeral site, and military chief General Cirilito Sobejana handed over the folded Philippine flag to Aquino's eldest sibling, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz.

Filipinos paid their final respects to the former president along the convoy route and at his tomb, bringing yellow flowers and lighting candles.

Aquino, 61, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 24, due to renal disease secondary to diabetes and was cremated the same day.

The incumbent president usually declares 10 days of national mourning when a former president dies, with the Philippine flag flown at half-mast during this period.
