NGCP starts restoration of typhoon-damaged transmission lines

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has begun restoration efforts for transmission lines damaged by Typhoon Odette in the Visayas and Mindanao.

As of Saturday night, 26 138kV lines were unavailable, impacting Surigao del Norte, parts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, and the entirety of Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Samar.

NGCP has deployed 65 line gangs, comprising over 500 personnel, and two helicopters to expedite repairs.

Initial assessments in Mindanao revealed 134 fallen poles across Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur.

In the Visayas, toppled towers were identified along transmission lines between Cebu Substation and Colon Substation in Naga, and Calong-calong Substation in Toledo.

NGCP is considering interim measures to speed up restoration in Cebu, including sourcing power from Leyte geothermal plants or installing an emergency restoration system.
