Smart services nearing full restoration in Mindanao, ongoing in Visayas

Smart Communications reported that as of Monday, wireless services in Mindanao are nearly complete at 96% operational, with fixed services almost fully restored at 99%.

Major restoration activities are still ongoing in Surigao del Norte including Siargao, Misamis Oriental, and Dinagat Islands.

In the Visayas, Smart has restored 85% of wireless services and 69% of its fixed services, with major areas for restoration remaining in Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Negros provinces.

The slow restoration of communication services in the Visayas was attributed to the prolonged delay in resuming commercial power supply and difficulty in procuring fuel for generator sets.

Globe Telecom has also set up free charging and call stations in various areas across the Visayas and Mindanao to aid residents in connecting with their families.

PLDT and Smart have deployed more personnel and equipment, including chartered flights carrying engineers and critical equipment, for repair works in Siargao and Palawan.
