Negros Occidental halts LSIs from Cebu amid COVID-19 spike

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson halted the entry of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Cebu due to a spike in COVID-19 infections in the province.

Most of the positive cases in Negros Occidental were identified as LSIs arriving from Cebu.

On June 24, the province recorded 21 new cases, all of whom were LSIs from Cebu.

The provincial governor requested the national Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to expand the existing travel ban from Cebu City to include the entire Cebu province.

Governor Lacson also proposed that stranded individuals from Cebu undergo RT-PCR testing before their departure to Negros Occidental.

He cited that the province's quarantine facilities are overwhelmed and that they wish to avoid receiving more positive cases, emphasizing Cebu's status as the current epicenter of the virus.
