NCR, nearby provinces increase PUV capacity to 70%

Starting November 4, public transportation in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces will operate at 70% passenger capacity, an increase from the previous 50%.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) approved this increase on October 28, considering the decline in COVID-19 infections and aggressive vaccination rollout.

This move aims to compensate for growing demand as more businesses reopen and quarantine restrictions ease, and to help public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers recover lost income due to rising fuel costs.

The 70% capacity applies to road-based public utility vehicles, including buses, jeepneys, and UV Express, in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna.

For traditional jeepneys, 15 passengers will be allowed in those with a 20-passenger capacity, and 11 passengers in those with an 11-passenger capacity.

Modern jeepneys with a 19-passenger capacity will be allowed to carry 13 people.

Plastic barriers are no longer required in public utility jeepneys, provided that physical distancing and health protocols are strictly observed.
