Ships, hotels eyed as quarantine facilities: Nograles
The Philippine government is expediting the conversion of maritime vessels, hotels, and other private establishments into quarantine and isolation facilities nationwide.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles confirmed that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has directed concerned agencies to hasten the identification of these establishments.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), is tasked to identify suitable maritime vessels for use as floating quarantine centers.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) is likewise directed to finalize the identification of hotels and similar establishments across the country to serve as quarantine facilities.
This initiative comes as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines reached 1,546 as of Monday.
Some major hospitals in Metro Manila have also reached their maximum capacity for COVID-19 patients.
