MIAA plans electrical audit after NAIA power outages

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has outlined a comprehensive plan for an electrical audit of NAIA to prevent future power outages.

MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co met with MServ and Meralco to discuss the thorough audit aimed at enhancing airport operations.

NAIA has experienced at least three power outages this year, with a significant incident in January causing widespread flight disruptions.

A recent power outage at NAIA Terminal 3 was attributed by Meralco to the negligence of a personnel conducting testing.

In addition to electrical system improvements, MIAA plans to rehabilitate and upgrade facilities, including boarding bridges, chillers, and taxiways.

Major projects for facility upgrades are expected to be completed within 24 to 36 months.

Projects with immediate passenger impact, such as the construction of additional comfort rooms and the rehabilitation of existing ones, are already underway.

MIAA is also constructing an immigration annex to be completed by December, which will serve as a processing area for OFWs, PWDs, senior citizens, and diplomats.

The authority is continuously studying process flows to reduce congestion and improve the passenger experience, noting the positive impact of removing initial security checkpoints.
